Appeal Court Upholds Dethronement of Enugu Traditional Ruler

The Court of Appeal in Enugu has upheld the dethronement of the Traditional Ruler of Okpogho Community, Ezeagu L.G.A of Enugu, Pastor Linus Chimereze. The court affirmed the judgment delivered by Hon. Justice R. O. Odugu on July 27, 2018, which deposed Pastor Linus Chimereze from his position. Delivering the leading judgment on August 1, 2023, Hon. Justice Olubunmi Oyewole upheld the decision of the trial court, stating that the election of the Traditional Ruler violated Enugu State's Traditional Ruler's Laws and was marred by irregularities and impunity. The appeal filed by the dethroned Igwe was dismissed by the Court of Appeal, with costs of N250,000 awarded against the Appellant in favor of the Respondents.
