Security: Enugu Motorists Decry Extortion at Military Checkpoints, Laud State Government's Safety Efforts
Bus and tricycle drivers in the bustling metropolis of Enugu have voiced their concern over rampant cases of extortion occurring at military checkpoints within the city. Simultaneously, they have applauded the efforts of the Enugu State Government for enhancing safety and security by establishing multiple military checkpoints at various roundabouts and junctions across the state.
An anonymous bus driver, operating along the New-layout-Agbani Road, shared his frustrations regarding the systematic exploitation they encounter throughout their routes. These incidents of extortion have caused significant distress among drivers, who are already facing numerous challenges in their daily operations.
In a similar vein, tricycle operators and a shuttle bus driver traversing the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway also reported encountering these illicit activities.
Drivers have collectively appealed to the state government to take immediate action in addressing the unlawful extortion at military checkpoints. They underscored the importance of maintaining a fair and transparent environment for motorists, ensuring that their livelihoods are not compromised by such exploitative practices.
Amidst these grievances, the drivers have expressed their appreciation for the efforts of the Governor, His Excellency, Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah in reestablishing safety and security within the state.
