Lagos Police Arrest Three Over Dr. Vware Diaso's Death
The Lagos State Police Command has taken three individuals into custody in connection with the tragic death of Dr. Vware Diaso at the General Hospital in Lagos. The spokesperson for the command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrests on Saturday. While the identities of the suspects remain undisclosed, Hundeyin revealed that a thorough investigation is underway to shed light on the incident.
Dr. Diaso, a medical doctor who was interning at the General Hospital, lost her life due to a malfunctioning elevator at the hospital's Odan facility. The unfortunate incident occurred on Wednesday evening when she was attempting to meet a delivery rider with her online food order. The elevator, which had a history of malfunctions, collapsed from the 10th floor to the ground floor, leading to her demise.
Despite being swiftly rushed to the emergency ward, Dr. Diaso did not survive. Sources have pointed out that the hospital management failed to address the recurrent elevator malfunctions adequately.
Governor Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has expressed condolences to the victim's family and pledged a comprehensive investigation into the matter. Meanwhile, the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Lagos Branch, has initiated an independent inquiry into the incident. The NMA, along with members of the Nigerian Bar Association and Nigerian Society of Engineers, aims to uncover the truth behind the doctor's tragic death. Chairman of the NMA, Lagos Chapter, Benjamin Oluwatosin, emphasized that any individual found guilty will be held accountable under the law.
Safety expert Mahiu Muttiu highlighted the importance of regular elevator maintenance to prevent such accidents. Muttiu stressed the necessity of adhering to standard safety practices and conducting prescribed tests on elevators before or during their use. He also emphasized the significance of utilizing authorized distributors and original spare parts to ensure elevator functionality and minimize risks to people's lives.
