Reactions Trail as Tinubu Withdraws Dr. Maryam Shetty's Ministerial Nomination; Nominates Festus Keyamo From Kano

President Bola Tinubu has opted to withdraw the nomination of Dr. Maryam Shetty from Kano State as a Ministerial nominee, triggering a wave of reactions. The development comes on the very day she was scheduled for screening.

The announcement was conveyed through a letter addressed to the Senate and read aloud by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio. The President's decision to replace Dr. Shetty with Mairiga Mahmoud has raised eyebrows within political circles, leading to speculation about the reasons behind this eleventh-hour change.

In a separate turn of events, President Tinubu has also nominated the former Minister of Labour and Productivity, Festus Keyamo, SAN, from Delta State. This new nomination brings the total number of Ministerial Nominees put forward by President Tinubu to forty-eight, indicating a comprehensive reshuffling of his proposed cabinet lineup.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday communicated to the National Assembly, withdrawing the nomination of Maryam Shetty as a ministerial nominee from Kano State.

The President, in a supplementary list sent to the upper chamber, nominated 19 more persons, including Maryam Shetty, to be screened and confirmed together with his 28-man list earlier sent for ministerial positions.

Our reporter gathered that the President, in a latest development, asked the Senate to replace Maryam Shettywith Mairiya Mahmud.

Reacting to her removal, Shetty took to Twitter to write:

“Just In. I was just informed now at today’s plenary session that President Bola Ahmad Tinubu has withdraw my ministerial nomination and replaced her with Dr Mairiya Mahmud.I’m grateful and thankful for any decision from you My President! #WeBelieve #ZeroTension”.

She congratulated her replacement:

“I felicitate with Dr Mariya Mairiga Mahmud. I thank the leader of our party HE Abdullahi Ganduje for his fatherly disposition and democratic stance that set the stage for a free and transparent contestation devoid of institutional bias, favoritism, or imposition of any kind”.

Recall that a video made the rounds last week showing Maryam Shetty praying after her name was announced in the second batch.

The video posted on Twitter on Wednesday night shows Maryam on her prayer mat, receiving a call before going into prayer.

She looked at the camera and said she was thankful to Tinubu.

She also described him as “patriotic” and prayed that his administration would be successful.

The political landscape continues to evolve with these surprising developments, adding a layer of complexity to the ongoing political discussions. As the nation eagerly awaits further details regarding the rationale behind these decisions, speculations run rampant about the potential implications for the administration's policies and strategies.
