"Terrible Government Destroying Lives Of Nigerian Citizens, Making Them Poorer Despite Hard Work" — Kemi Badenoch Rubbishes Nigerian Govt

Kemi Badenoch, the UK Conservative Party leader, has strongly criticized the Nigerian government, describing it as a force that destroys the lives of its citizens and makes them poorer despite their hard work. In her first speech of the year, delivered on January 18, 2025, Badenoch emphasized her push for "real conservatism" in the UK, aiming for a "better, richer, and safer" future for the younger generation.

Badenoch recounted her own experiences of growing up in Nigeria, where her relatively wealthy family became progressively poorer due to inflation and the country's mismanagement. She shared how, at the age of 16, she migrated to the UK with only £100 from her father, seeking a better life. This experience shaped her view of governance, as she stressed that she never wanted Britain to become like Nigeria, where bad governance hampers the prosperity of its people.

"I grew up in a poor country, and I watched my relatively wealthy family become poorer despite working harder as their money disappeared with inflation," Badenoch said. "I don't want Britain to lose what it has."

This marks another instance where Badenoch has criticized Nigeria, previously describing the Nigerian police as "armed robbers" who intimidate citizens rather than protect them.

Her remarks have sparked a response from Nigerian officials, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, who urged Badenoch to change her name if she wished to disassociate herself from Nigeria, describing the country as "the greatest black nation on earth."

The criticisms from Badenoch come amid ongoing discussions about Nigeria's governance and the struggles faced by its citizens.
