JUST IN: Mohbad’s Wife, Father Clash Over DNA Test

 

Omowunmi, the widow of Ilerioluwa Aloba (known as Mohbad), has accused her late husband’s father, Joseph Aloba, of avoiding a DNA test to resolve the dispute surrounding the paternity of their son.

The Magistrates Court in Ikorodu, Lagos, on July 9, 2024, had directed both parties to explore an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), but this approach failed to reach an agreement. Mohbad’s father had filed the suit seeking a DNA test for his grandson.

A representative of the family’s legal team, Monisola Odumosu, stated in October 2024 that Omowunmi had agreed to undergo the DNA test, and both parties had drafted settlement terms. The court then ordered that the test be carried out at a mutually agreed laboratory or medical centre in Nigeria. The court also appointed officers to supervise the DNA testing process to ensure reliability.

However, a letter from Omowunmi’s legal representatives, Salawu Akingbolu Chambers, dated January 9, 2025, stated that Omowunmi rejected Mohbad’s father’s choice of the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan. She also rejected Lagoon Hospitals, proposing Eko Hospital and Reddington Hospitals as alternative locations. According to the letter, Mohbad’s father did not respond to these suggestions.

Omowunmi expressed frustration after Mohbad’s father’s lawyer, Taiwo Odumosu, claimed on social media that she was not ready for the DNA test. Omowunmi rejected these claims and demanded an apology for the alleged misrepresentation.

She further criticized Mohbad’s father for defaming her son on social media, calling him a "bastard." Omowunmi threatened to proceed with the DNA test independently if the matter continued to be delayed.

In a response dated January 11, 2025, from Hillceetee Partners, Mohbad’s father denied the allegations and clarified that Taiwo Odumosu had never stated that Omowunmi was not ready for the test. He explained that Odumosu had only mentioned that the hospitals had not responded to enquiries about the test.

The letter concluded with the announcement that Hillceetee Partners would cease representing Mohbad’s father in the matter.
