HAPPENING NOW! Scores Feared Dead Including Pregnant Woman and Children As Fuel Tanker Explodes


An unspecified number of people, including a pregnant woman, have died in an explosion while rushing to scoop fuel from a crashed tanker at Dikko in Niger State, near Abuja, the nation’s capital. The tragic incident occurred on Saturday morning near Dikko Junction along Minna road, leading to a high number of casualties and injuries, including a pregnant woman and her children, according to an eyewitness.

It was gathered that some individuals were attempting to scoop the fuel from the crashed tanker and transfer it into their jerrycans and containers when the explosion occurred. It was also learned that some of them brought a generating set in the process to scoop the fuel, which resulted in the devastating explosion.

Several people were said to have lost their lives in the incident, including a pregnant woman and her children. One of the eyewitnesses stated, “I saw the bodies of the victims, but I cannot confirm the exact number of fatalities. Among the deceased were a pregnant woman and some children.”

Firefighters are still battling to put off the raging fire as of the time of filing the report.

Vice-President Kashim Shettima and 13 state governors paid a New Year homage to President Bola Tinubu in Lagos on Wednesday. According to Gistcore, Onanuga, the Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, died after a brief illness.
