BREAKING: Court Grants Naomi, Oriyomi Hamzat Bail

 


An Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has granted bail to Olori Naomi Silekunola, Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, and Abdulahi Fasasi. The trio had been arrested in connection with a tragic incident that occurred during the Christmas funfair on December 24, 2024, which resulted in the deaths of 35 children in Ibadan, Oyo State.


Justice K.B. Olawoyin issued the ruling on January 13, 2025, after the court had reserved its decision on the bail applications on January 7, 2025.


Hamzat, who is the founder of Agidigbo FM, and Fasasi, the principal of Islamic High School, Bashorun, are facing charges related to conspiracy, negligence, and failure to provide adequate security and medical facilities at the event.


Earlier, on January 7, 2025, Chief Magistrate Mrs. Olabisi Ogunkanmi had ordered the trio to be remanded at Agodi Correctional Facility as investigations were ongoing. The court's decision to grant bail now paves the way for them to face trial outside of custody.

Shettima, 13 Governors Pay New Year Homage to Tinubu in Lagos

Vice-President Kashim Shettima and 13 state governors paid a New Year homage to President Bola Tinubu in Lagos on Wednesday. The president is currently in Lagos for the Christmas and New Year celebrations. Among the governors present were Abba Yusuf of Kano, Sherriff Oborevwori of Delta, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, and Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers.   The House of Representatives member representing the people of Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency, Rt Hon. Oriyomi Adewunmi Onanuga, aka Ijaya, is reportedly dead. According to Gistcore, Onanuga, the Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, died after a brief illness. Meanwhile, the sad news is yet to be made official to the public either by NASS or the family. Born on December 2, 1965, Onanuga was a politician and entrepreneur. She had been the Deputy Chief Whip of the Nigerian House of Representatives since 2023. She was born in Hammersmith, London to Nigerian parents. In 2019, Onanuga contested election for Member, House of Representatives on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and won.
