BREAKING: Nigeria Submits Extradition Requirements For Simon Ekpa To Finnish Government, Says Defence Chief

The Nigerian government has formally submitted the necessary documentation to the Government of Finland for the extradition of Simon Ekpa, a pro-Biafran agitator. This move was confirmed by Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, during a broadcast on Channel TV on December 31, 2024. The submission marks a significant step in Nigeria's efforts to address the actions of Ekpa, who is accused of inciting unrest and promoting terrorism and secessionist activities within the country.

General Musa explained that all the required legal documentation for Ekpa’s extradition had been sent to Finnish authorities for review. He expressed confidence that the necessary legal procedures would follow, noting that the Nigerian government had provided substantial evidence to support its case.

The extradition request follows Ekpa's arrest by Finnish authorities in November 2024, along with four other individuals, on suspicion of involvement in terrorist-related activities. These included charges related to incitement to violence and financing terrorism. The Finnish Lahti District Court had earlier ordered Ekpa’s remand, citing probable cause for public incitement to commit crimes with terrorist intent in Nigeria.

Ekpa, who has gained notoriety for using social media to propagate separatist propaganda, is accused of violently advocating for the secession of southeastern Nigeria. His actions have been widely condemned for fostering divisions and encouraging violence across the region.

The Nigerian Defence Chief expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the case, commenting, "Well, I’m sure he’s cooling off somewhere." He further emphasized that the Nigerian government would continue to pursue legal action against Ekpa, and expressed hope that the Finnish authorities would take the appropriate steps in the extradition process.

This development highlights the ongoing tension between separatist movements and the Nigerian government, as well as the international dimension of the efforts to combat terrorism and violence linked to these movements.
