TRAGEDY: Fulani Herdsmen Launch Fresh Attack on Enugu Community
Another dark cloud looms over the Nimbo community in the Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State as Fulani herdsmen launch a fresh attack, leaving behind a trail of death and destruction.
The latest attack, which occurred late Sunday evening, has claimed several lives, with many others critically injured. According to sources, the herders descended on mourners at Ugwuijoro Nimbo community, leaving tears and sorrow in their wake.
Eyewitnesses recounted the horrifying events, stating that the invaders caught the villagers by surprise, opening fire indiscriminately at the mourners. Videos from the scene depict a scene of chaos and devastation, with tables and chairs strewn across the compound where the mourners had gathered. Lifeless bodies lay in pools of blood, a grim of to the brutality of the attack.
The Nimbo community has once again been plunged into mourning, with many residents fleeing to neighboring communities in fear for their lives. This recent attack has left the community in a state of shock and disbelief, as they grapple with yet another senseless act of violence.
This is not the first time the Nimbo community has been targeted by Fulani herdsmen. In 2016, the community was similarly attacked, resulting in the loss of many lives. The invasion of Ukpabi-Nimbo community in April 2016 sent shockwaves across the nation, drawing widespread outrage.
The attack, carried out by over 500 armed Fulani herdsmen, targeted seven villages - Ekwuru, Nimbo-Ngwoko, Ugwuijoro, Ebor, Enugu-Nimbo, Umuome, and Ugwuachara. Scores of innocent villagers were massacred in what was described as one of the deadliest attacks by the Fulani herdsmen, a group ranked as the fourth deadliest terror group in the world.
While the Nimbo community mourns the loss of yet more innocent lives, questions are being raised about the security situation in the area and the continued vulnerability of its residents to such attacks. The government is under increasing pressure to take decisive action to ensure the safety and security of all its citizens, regardless of their location or ethnicity.
The people of Nimbo are left to pick up the pieces once again, mourning their dead and praying for an end to the cycle of violence that has engulfed their community. [EverydayNews].
